Peterson pipes are made in Dublin from the finest quality briar wood. All fitted with nickel mounts and army style mouthpiece. Various models to choose from with a choice of highly polished or rustic finish. The standard Peterson System reservoir traps moisture, resulting in a perfectly dry smoke. About The Range. In 1890, after 15 years of handling and repairing pipes while working for the Kapps, Charles Peterson secured a patent in his own name, titled "A certain new and useful improvement in Tobacco-Pipes," which introduced a unique system comprised of a higher draft hole and a moisture reservoir bored into the shank and transition of a briar pipe. Over the next eight years, Charles continued to refine his System, applying for and securing patents for a graduated bore mouthpiece (1891), and a unique button design known today as the P-Lip (1894-1898). Designed to wick moisture away from the smoke, reduce tongue bite, and increase the longevity of the pipe, Peterson's complete System patent sparked a tradition of innovation, one we continue to uphold to this day. The System Pipe is the invisible source behind our unique House Style: our pipes' muscular shanks and transitions, tubular profile, and generous bends. Our overall shaping style has a distinctly antique form because it has remained largely unchanged for over 120 years. In our System range, you'll find a variety of shapes in myriad finishes, each featuring Charles Peterson's groundbreaking improvements in the realm of tobacco pipes. Whether you're looking for your first pipe or to enhance a robust collection, here you'll find numerous options to suit any taste, all backed by our legacy of craftsmanship.

THE PETERSON STORY

The Nurnberg brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp, whose elegant Dublin tobacconist first opened for business in 1865 on Grafton Street, Dublin could scarcely have dreamt that they would participate in the birth of a legend.

Friedrich & Heinrich, who christened their shop simply 'Kapp Brothers', soon made a name for themselves making and selling quality Meerschaum and Briar Root pipes. It was not long before Charles Peterson, walked into Kapp Brothers Grafton Street premises armed with a revolutionary pipe and ambitious plans for the future.

There and then, Peterson suggested that the brothers go into partnership with him to turn his pipe dream into the world's dream pipe. They agreed and the company was renamed Kapp & Peterson. Kapp and Peterson went on to become Dublin's most fashionable and respected manufacturer and purveyor of fine smoking products. Pipe and cigar smokers would stroll down to the elegant premises for professional advice on the subtle nuances that determine a good handmade cigar or pipe. The Peterson brand was embraced by politicians, business leaders, sportsmen, artists and writers.

The skills and craft which Charles Peterson applied to his original invention are continued by the dedicated team of craftsmen at Peterson today. Whether as a gift for a friend or for your own personal use, you will appreciate the excellence of the Peterson range of tobaccos, pipes and smoking accessories.
